..so there I am Hyperscribing in the violin theme, everything working fine, sounding great. Might be better with a low Trombone holding note. Simple Entry. Yeah! OK, back to the Master Keyboard (soundless - works interface to sound banks) to play over a few ideas. Hey, wait a minute: suddenly I'm playing stratospheric trombone!
Logical, I suppose. I did change staff.
But how do I get the violin patch back? Record something in the staff and then delete? Write a Patch Change to the clipboard, and paste? Long-winded! There must be a simple solution. It's surely mentioned in the documentation somewhere, but I have only had time to read the entire User Manual three times so far.
I probably missed it. Thanks. J Alex.

J Alex,

If you have MIDI Thru set to Smart, you will hear the patch/instrument of the staff you are currently putting notes into.

It seems that you can't use Simple Entry to select a staff without actually entering something. Use HyperScribe or Speedy Entry instead to click a violin measure and leave it again immediately by clicking outside the frame (or hitting 0 (zero) in Speedy Entry).
