I was curious if there is a plug in for finale 2004 that will do figured bass.

At one time there was one. Check the Make Music website for any links to third party plugins.

P.S.: Ansgar Krause's Final Font Solutions has a font and entry system for this, but I'm not sure that it is a plugin, or for what versions it will work. Look for his website and see if it is of any help.

By The Way:

Among Finale's libraries with chord suffixes there is a library with Figured Bass.

You still have to add the "Figured Bass" suffixes manually, although you can work faster by using chord metatools.

I agree that having a plug-in doing the work would be nice.

What do you mean manually? If I use "type into score," and type 64, that puts it in to the score in the proper way (stacked). That is not really manually, is it? I would think of manually as clicking and selecting using "Manual Input". It is very fast to enter by the numbers. I had no idea Finale had that option. Wow.

OK, the word "manually" was not a good choice in this case.
With "manually" I meant "not automatically".
One way of doing it manually is to Type Into Score.
Another way is the Two-Staff Analysis where you click the score once for each and every chord.

I suppose that musikman189 was asking for a plug-in that could add figured bass by analyzing the notes on the staves so that you could just select all the measures and run the plug-in.

That would be a nice plug-in, for any style of chord. Thanks for the clarification.

I need this non-existent plug-in, too.  I'm engraving musical examples for a to-be-published book that focuses on Baroque and Classical performance practice.  I've been doing the figured bass very archaicly (sp?) by using the text tool to do the numbers, i.e.

6
5

and then adding a sharp to a note (or flat, natural, whatever), selecting Accidental Mover Tool, allow vertical positioning, and then move the # to, like:

6
5
#

Very time consuming...

That is indeed very time consuming, and I wonder if there is a faster way, using the Chord Tool:
Finale comes with a chord library for figured bass.

You could also create your own chord library, in case the library from the Finale installation is inadequate.

You can get slashed numbers from the font OpusText which you can get for free by downloading and installing the Sibelius demo.
