Any chance SmartMusic will ever use sibelius or AT LEAST midi files to be used. I use sibelius. I like sibelius. I have no intention of spending $$$ for Finale and have too many memories of fighting with a hard to use program in college, I don't want to repeat that when I've found a much easier program to use that does the same things. Just wish I could put that music in Smart Music.

I don't think they have any plans to allow other programs to create SM accompaniments at this point. Aside from the marketing advantages to keeping this ability in the Finale family, there are numerous technical reasons as well. SmartMusic uses the notation engine from Finale, and making a reliable converter to go from Sibelius or another program to SmartMusic would take a lot of ongoing work as new versions of each program were released. SmartMusic and Finale also use the same soundfont, and without this it would be a guessing game trying to make an accompaniment sound right in SM.

Perhaps the best bet would be for Sibelius to add the ability to export to Music XML so that files could be easily taken from their software to Finale and then saved as SM's after cleaning them up in Finale (there are almost always conversion issues). This is already possible, though it requires purchasing Dolet for Sibelius separately and of course Finale as well.

You owe it to yourself to let go of old memories of Finale. I used to have the same feelings... old versions seemed overwhelmingly difficult to use. Finale has been incredibly intuitive for the last 5 or so years.
