For an iPod version, there would not need be an on screen assessment, but it would be more feasible for the iPad.
My school is looking at a 1 to 1 iPad program (still working out the tethering details) and I would love give students the opportunity to use SmartMusic with their own iPads. | Back to Top

The point of SmartMusic on an iPhone or iPod Touch would be for portability. True, new SmartMusic resources include sheet music on the screen and so on. But for practice, students really only need their method book and the device for playback/accompaniment/recording. It's really a very powerful concept...just like they say with cameras...the most important camera you have is the one with you, which is why there has been such major advances in cell phone camera over the past years. I used to carry a regular camera on vacation--now I just bring my phone (My wife has a hobby with a big Canon digital SLR if we ever need "super pics."). The same would be true of SmartMusic on iPhone/iPod Touch: the best SmartMusic to practice with is on the device you have with you. The student could then go to practice in their room and so on (e.g. not sitting at the family computer).
I flat out don't believe that SmartMusic could not be written for iOS devices (the company line is that the hardware and OS couldn't support it). HTML-5 is exploding on the net, and even Adobe has recently created a Flash to HTML-5 convertor (doesn't work with Flash-based games).
If it were my money (it's not), I'd take the risk and develop an iOS version. And then as schools adopt the iPad, and as students continue to buy iPod Touches and iPhones, I'd be depositing their yearly SmartMusic subscription fees in the bank, recuperating the development costs and eventually to profits. I'd want SmartMusic on every possible device. I'd eventually bring it to Android as well. | Back to Top

I use my iPad every day in the practice room, and I am using smartmusic less and less, because I have found ways to do what smart music does without smartmusic (as far as practicing with accompiament files). Thinking about not renewing my subscription because I don't use my desk top anymore. Would love to see an iPad/ iPhone app. | Back to Top
