I´ve been trying to set the Human Preferences so that Finale performs written articulations as keyswitches from a patch to another. What I am now wondering is, for example, what´s a marcato for Finale? I guess Finale performs as marcato the notes that have certain velocity or whatever, but is there any way to change what Finale understands as marcato in other parameters? (let´s say less velocity, or certain level of CC#1...)

I´ve used marcato just as an example, but I´d like to know how to set the values of any kind of articulations. Thank you very much

Marcato would be defined in Human Playback.

Marcato is triggered by the marcato mark over a note in the score...

If you're using a sample library that recorded specific marcato samples, then you can program HP to switch to those samples when it sees a marcato mark.

If your samples do not included marcato, then you can define what playback velocity to use in the articulation's dialog box. It'll accent a note based on your parameters.

the articulation marcato (not the accent) is the trigger, which you cannot change. How you program the technique is dependent on the instrument and which library you are using.

If you don't want marcato markings over each individual note in an all marcato passage:

You can hide actual marcato markings.

It's also possible to build a text based 'instruction' that will send a key switch. Note that these following techniques would only work if the passage does NOT include any other articulations that are set to send an over-riding key-switch (I.E. staccato and slur/legato marks).

You can either assign the instruction in HP settings, or you can directly assign it to the instruction. The advantage of doing it through HP settings is that each stave or 'instrument' can have different commands for the same text. When assigning commands or play back qualities directly to some text, it would be universal (send the same commands) for any stave or instrument.

Example: Say you want measures 10 - 16 to be played marcato. You could add a text instruction "Marcato" at the start of bar 10 to the stave and have that instruction set to send the key switch. You could have another text instruction such as arco, normal, default, or whatever at the end of bar 16 that resets the key switch to the default position.

Depending on notation conventions for the particular instrument, and your scoring style, you might like to 'hide' the text element that resets the key switch (normal), and use a dashed line beside the Marcato instruction on through bar 16.

You can use this technique to drop in a key switch anywhere you like. Simply create text instructions and hide the ones you do not want showing on a score.

Another option is to simply draw the note on the staff that does the keyswitch and then hide it. If this approach alters the display of the passage in an undesirable way, you could do this on a different layer/voice of the stave.

Yet another option is to create a second stave for the soul purpose of hosting key switches, where you just draw in the note(s) that would perform the switch. Just make sure it is set to use the same VSTi/MIDI instance/channel. Hide this entire staff when you want it out of the way.
