I would like to use SmartMusic for some very basic jazz improvisation skills with my elementary band students. Rather than re-invent the wheel, I was wondering if anyone had some lessons that you've used that were effective. Got any suggestions?

The Smartmusic has a lot of excellent resources, including quite a few lesson plans for various topics. Here is how to find them

Visit www.smartmusic.com
Hover your mouse over Teachers, then click on resouces
In the blue column on the left, click Lesson Plans
You will now see a list of lesson plans.

Check out the Play by Ear lesson plan, it uses the Smartmusic exercises where students listen to SM, then echo back what they hear. The easiest level uses only 3 notes.

Hope that helps you out!
