Why is it that, after carefully placing an accent, its handle suddenly appears way the hell on the other side of the measure? Frequently the handle ends up a full inch away from the articulation symbol. What gives?

I don't know why, but it's annoying. I revert to the Selection Tool on these occasions.

OK. I'm not sure how the selection tool can help, but I'm experimenting. Meantime I have another problem...

I would like to move my accent from the stem side to the notehead side. Every time I drag it, it jumps too far from the notehead. I drag nice and slowly and it follows obediently for a little bit. But then it suddenly jumps beyond where I want to place it.

Together with the wandering handle, which I described in my first post, I'm having a difficult time with a relatively simple task.

If you select the Selection Tool and click directly on an object, it selects that object and the Tool with which it was created. Handy if the handle is not visible, or if you're not sure what tool was used to create the object in question.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the plants and shills on the Forum, the jumping handle problem and the positioning problem you're experiencing are some of the long-standing bugs that have many experienced users frustrated with Coda. For repositioning the accent, my best suggestion is to try selecting it, then nudging it into place with the arrow keys.

Most articulations are designed to position
themselves automatically in the articulation
designer dialog. You will have to read the manual to
determine what options to deselect if you want to
manually move all articulations. If you want to
manually place certain articulations, click on the
note, highlight the articulation you want in the
selection area and on the left side click duplicate,
leave the duplicate selected and then choose edit
and deselect the options that automatically position
the articulation. If you will use this articulation
more than once make it a metatool and you can
click it quickly into your score wherever you need it.

Try this:

1. Click the note to make the Articulation Selection dialog box appear.

2. Click the accent to highlight it.

3. Click the button "Duplicate" to duplicate the accent.

4. Click the button "Edit" to open the Articulation Designer dialog box.

5. In the "Position" pop up menu, change "On stem side" to "On note side".

Thanks. Once the two of you got me into the editor, I saw how to customize the positioning of the accent. What was actually happening was the accent was jumping over the staff because "Always place outside staff" was selected. Once I deselected that, the jumping stopped.

I guess accents within the staff are not standard. Unfortunately I'm a bit crowded in this spot and I will have to see if the accent within the staff looks ok. Otherwise I'll just have to free up some space above the staff.

Thanks, but I've got to tell you, the wandering handles are still driving me nuts!
