I need to get an accompaniment on a CD as audio. What I have tried is this: I recorded the accompaniment in SmartMusic and I told it to save as an MP3. The problem is, it didn't save as an MP3. The computer has no idea what type of file it is. I can play it back through Windows Media Player, but I can't burn it to a CD. I need to do this within the next few days. Please help.

What is the extension on the file (as in .wma, .wav, etc.)? You can probably find this by right-clicking the file and choosing properties. Once you find the extension, go onto www.google.com and do a search for:

".xxx to .wav" conversion

Chances are you'll be able to find a free utility that can do it.

Alternatively, you could record the output of Windows Media Player back into the sound recorder.

I'm not sure what the Windows Media Player allows for saving onto CD's directly. It may also be possible to use it to create the CD.

Windows XP, all updates

It has no file extension. In properties it actually says File Type: File.

But you were right. WMP was able to burn it. Thanks.
