Trying to adjust staff line thickness in Document options. I can't get them to go smaller than my current setting (0.006 inches). I can crank it up and make ridiculously thick lines, but I can't get them to get much thinner. I even tried setting it to "0", but to no avail. Is there some other setting somewhere that enforces a minimum, that's overriding my setting in Document Options/Lines&Curves?

We might need to see the file, as I have no trouble getting 0 to work.

It's true of any/all my Finale files....? Do you want me to attach one of them?

No trouble here. There seems to be a lower limit. What number do you want?

Seems like everything from 0.005-0.009 inches looks the same. 0.1 gets noticeably thicker, and 0.004 gets noticeably thinner. But within that range, it doesn't seem to change....?

Increase the magnification of the page and you'll see the differences. I see them, anyway.

I tried that; I do see some changes but they're inconsistent. I'll see the same thing at .006, .005, .004, etc, but then suddenly it'll change at .001.
Then, as I go back UP (getting bigger), it'll look the same as .001 all the way up to .005, but then change there. It's weird, inconsistent.
Do you see a change for every number you type?

Is this just on screen, or on print / PDF too?

Does Windows do anti-aliasing of lines, or thicken lines to make sure they fit onto pixels? Some printing systems also can set minimum line widths to avoid thin lines breaking up.

Also, don't forget in Document Options > Lines & Curves, there is a "resolution" setting. Yours is at 32. I use 128. I have no idea why that setting is even there, as it's based in the dark ages.

For line measurements, I work in points: there are 4 EVPUs to the Point, so you get a nice round number, and it gives you finer control than remembering small decimal increments.

Wiggy, I think that's it. Printing does show some differences that aren't showing up on screen (even an iMac 5K Retina display!). I think that explains why (in my previous comment), I was getting inconsistent results as I incrementally adjusted thickness, too. Hopefully this thread will help someone else sometime, who wonders the same thing. Thanks, all!
