I have a 1st ending and a 2nd ending.

I have an eighth note that starts both endings.

The last note prior to each ending is an eighth note.

I would like to know how to construct the tie so that it looks proper in print and/or plays back properly.

If it is not possible to play back properly, I would like to know how to construct this for printing purposes.

This is really an obscure one.

Write out the music, including the repeat signs, brackets, etc..

Do the tie to the first ending normally.

Select Speedy Entry Tool. Control-click in the first measure of the second ending to get the Edit Frame Window. Find the checkbox that says Tie End and check it > OK.

I've heard that this doesn't always work, but I've found it to be pretty reliable, and it plays back, too  8-)

Anna:

I think if you set up the repeat bars first, and then do the control-click thing in Speedy, it works pretty well; at least that's been my experience...

Jim:

If it doesn't work, a trick that will at least get it to print correctly is to use Smart Shapes. Attach a slur to the note at the beginning of the 2nd ending and manually adjust it to make it look like the tie in the first ending.

[Editorial: This is not all that uncommon, and it would make sense for Finale to have this function. Of course, it would also make sense for PostScript to work perfectly in Finale and Windows XP...]

Cheers.

Another idea for the tie to the second ending is to select Speedy Entry. Be sure the usual speedy entry window is not visible (Escape will clear it), then Control+Shift + click in the measure. The Edit frame comes up. In the lower half, click on Tie End (for the first note, which is automatically selected).

The Speedy Entry, CNTRL+CLICK worked.

Thanks.
