I am getting very scratchy playback on one of my longer files, and sometimes whole channels drop out altogether.
Any idea what is causing this? I am using Finale playing through Roland Sound Cloud.

Not having the Roland Sound cloud, I can't test this. However, the fact that you have velocity set to 101 might be causing clipping. I can't say. about the dropouts, I don't know.

Zuill

P.S.: After further testing, changing the MIDI velocity to a lower amount made no difference.

May I suggest assigning each staff to a different channel. I believe your problem is that there is conflict between staves sharing channels.

Zuill

P.S.: Some stuff in this file not quite working. Also, using an external sound device might be why you unchecked Send Patches Before Play. However, within Finale it was needed so I checked it. You might not need to have every staff on a different channel for the Roland, but for Finale, it solves the problems.

I thought maybe the Roland Sound Cloud was a MIDI sound module. It looks like an online file sharing sight. What is it?

Also, what I had to do with your revised file takes seconds in Finale 2014. It took me a half hour in 2011. I'm so glad I no longer use 2011.

Thank you Zuill, and forgive my stupid mistake - it is SOUND CANVAS not sound cloud (which is a place to upload, as we all know.) With further tinkering I discover that the problem is to do with dynamic variations. If you put in a crescendo, it starts from ZERO. If I EXCLUDE dynamics from playback (very irritating) then the file plays OK. It seems that the less information you give it to process, the better it behaves.

Is the correct midi information for dynamics being sent to the Sound Canvas?

Again, the cause of the problem is that you are sharing channels. That causes MIDI conflicts (note on and off). I don't think you looked at my file. In it, I reassigned every staff to a unique channel. That seemed to have mitigated the problem.

MUCH better - only one problem - I only have 16 channels. So for the time I have added it to the cellos.
You have been a GREAT help, and I am sorry - I didn't realise that you had fixed the file for me.
