I'm trying to get the SmartMusic metronome click to cooperate with the composite time signatures I've entered into my Finale file. Specifically 7/8 even though I've set it to beam in a 1/dotted quarter+1/4+1/4 pattern I can only get it to do seven 8th notes click. On the Finale program itself I end up with a really weird quarter+quarter+quarter+8th pattern. Neither of these is useful as the tempo is too fast for all 8ths (8th=324) and the Finale version is completely opposite my desired 3+2+2 feel.

Any suggestions on getting it to cooperate with me short of turning all the 7/8 bars into two measures - one of 3/8 (entered as 1/dotted quarter) and one 2/4?

Thanks!

If the 7/8 has been set up as 1/q. + 1/q + 1/q (and NOT 3/8 + 2/8 + 2/8) then the metronome should work as you want. I don't use Smart Music, so maybe this is different in that program.
