Has anyone got any new (or old) ideas (or plug-ins) to supply
"lyric numbers" at the beginning of each staff system?

E.g.,

1. This is my verse 1
2. And_____ verse 2
3. Verse 3 goes___ here

Entering the numbering directly into the lyric flow gets a bit ugly
and needs to be tweeked each time your leading measure shifts.

I know that you can take text boxes and manually paste numbers
at the beginning of each system, but the alignment goes goofy
if you start moving system locations around.

I've done it with a single expression with numbers stacked (now possible in recent versions of Finale). However, what's wrong with entering them in the lyrics? You can select all the handles of the first syllable of each verse, right click, and choose alignment and justification options. With this process, you should be able to get what you want. If you create a sample file with the ugly look, and a description of how you would like it to look, I'm sure the steps could be outlined.

You kind of answered your own question. << Entering the numbering directly into the lyric flow gets a bit ugly and needs to be tweaked each time your leading measure shifts. >> So don't start tweaking until after your layout is completely set. The expression or text block methods require lots of moving around, but "1. [hard space] This is my lyric" is one Adjust Syllable push away.
