Would someone please tell me what I am missing re making a set of instruments which encapsulate Bank and program setting for the particular instrument I am using? It seems my Finale 2000 will only allow me to specify 16 instruments at any time(the number of available MIDI channels). Am stumped.

Here's one way. Open the Full Orchestra Template and under Window choose Instrument List. Click the down arrow to the left of each instrument to give 4 layers for each
instrument. Rename and apply Channels and Patches for each instrument layer. That will give you 64 possibilities. Rename the file 'My template' and save it. Work from that basic file each time, changing sounds as required.

Otherwise, there's a great Knowledgebase Article here.

Thanks. It just seems there ought to be a way of dissociating the list of available instruments from other aspects of mapping the interface of MIDI to staff, channel, etc. E.g.,, for each midi channel , a drop-down list for each bank. oh well.
