Hi,
I'm new to Finale. I contacted tech support about this but they haven't given me an answer yet. I'm trying to add smart music markers to my score (rehearsal marks, etc.) but they make Finale give a 'not responding' message and I have to close it. I've tried several different files (all my files are new Finale 2006 files) and different smart markers, but the problem consistently occurs.
The tech support person's computer was able to add smart markers without having his system freeze. I don't think it is my machine but I'm not sure. I have an AMD 64 bit 3.4 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, an Nvidia 5950 video card, a Creative Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro sound card, and plenty of disk space.
Has anyone had similar problems?
Thanks,
Heath

I haven't been able to make the problem happen. Can you try it from a new default file (File menu >> New >> Default Document)? If it happens for you there, please list the steps you use so I can try to reproduce it.

Hi Tyler,
Yes I'm able to make it happen from a default file too. Anytime I do the following: Edit>>Add Smart Music Markers Finale freezed immediately, or freezes after I choose any item from the list of options on the left side (intelligent accomp, breath mark, etc.)
Thanks,
Heath

Wow. I'm sure tech support will have better suggestions than I, but I guess the first thing I'd try would be to restart the computer in Safe Mode (restart and hit F8 before Windows begins to load, then choose Safe Mode from the menu). Try to run Finale. Hopefully it will still run. If it does, try to use the SmartMusic Markers. If that makes a difference, then there might be something driver related, perhaps relating to your video card drivers. Let us know.

If that doesn't help, try uninstalling the application. Make sure that the SmartMusicMarkers.dll file is removed (it's in the Finale 2006\Component Files folder) and reinstall. Assuming that doesn't work, ask MakeMusic if they can send you that file zipped. Perhaps there's a weird anomaly with your CD where only that file is damaged. You could also check for this possibility by downloading and installing the demo of Finale 2005. See if the problem occurs there as well. If it does not - see if you can copy the SmartMusicMarkers.dll file from Finale 2005 into the 2006 folder and make it work.

If none of this helps, then my only other thought is to wonder if you are using the new 64-bit version of Windows and if that might some how be involved. You might bring it up with tech support to see what they say.
