In the arrangements I write, there are a lot
of altered chords, often with alternate
bass notes. I always have the option
checked to avoid collisions of chord
symbols, which is great, but it also avoids
collisions when there is no next chord to
collide with.
Example:
I have a measure with four quarter notes,
and the chord Bbm7(b5)/Eb over the first
note, with no other chords in the
measure. Finale respaces the measure
so that there is a big gap between the first
and second note, even though there is no
chord over the second note. This looks
rather awkward and takes up a lot of
space. Is there a way around this?
Thanks for any help.

In Finale 2002:
1. Turn off "Automatic Music Spacing" (Edit menu)
2. Go to
Options menu > Document Settings > Music Spacing Options
- and turn off "Chords" in the pane "Avoid Collision of".
3. Switch to Mass Mover Tool, select the measure, and hit the "4" key.
