This usually preserves the staff hiding after that point, but unfortunately, it messes up measure spacing, staff spacing adjustments, lyric baseline adjustments and a number of other things. It would be nice to be able to insert measures without altering the formatting of what comes afterwards, but Finale attaches a lot of information to specific system numbers (especially the first measure in each system) and this doesn't shift when inserting music. Can't you imagine a situation in which you've notated a score (with a deadline looming) and then, at the last minute, the composer or director decides that a number of measures has to be inserted at a certain point. Sure, in an ideal world one always does final formatting as the last step, but how many of us live in such an ideal world? Vaughan

Seeing as my music is rarely performed, that's not an issue. So, I guess it's ideal to be unrecognized. I can spend years tinkering with a score if I want to and no one will complain.
