Hi all,
Just had a mystery - it isn't critical but I just want to know what's going on. I just opened a document that I last edited almost exactly a month ago and to my surprise the score has lots of the notes now in a yellow ochre colour. I think that between then and now I put the latest Finale update on - always a danger ;o) - but I have no idea why they are coloured or how I get rid of this manifestation. Overtyping the notes has no effect, so possibly this new coloration means something to somebody, but I wish I knew what...can anybody help?
Cheers
Simon

OK chaps and chapesses - problem solved. You can go back to sleep. Sorry to disturb you. It's a new feature about "ranges" that I have just discovered in the "What's New" docs. I've turned it off.

The colored notes represent an out-of-range for that particular instrument depending on the experience of the player. Go to view and select the beginner to advanced player option. If you select the advanced player, the colored note will go away.

I have the exact same problem, but I can't seem to solve it. How exactly were you able to turn these colors off?

Use the menu "View -> Out-of-Range Notes -> Off" to turn off this feature.  If you want to see out-of-range notes in the different color, choose an expertise setting, either Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced.  Be advised that there is considerable disagreement as to the ranges that MakeMusic has chosen for the various levels of expertise on the various instruments.

Are you using Finale 2012? Because there's no "out-of-range notes" option in my View menu. Where can I find this in Finale 2012?

I found it under the "View" tab. (I didn't know it was there either.)

If memory serves correctly, this feature was added in one of the updates. 2012c should have it.

Well, it seems to me that if you have the problem, you would have the version of Finale where this feature is implemented. As I pointed out, and Zuill illustrates with an image, it is found under the View Menu.

What View tab are you referring to? Certainly not the View "tab" (pane) on "Edit -> Preferences".

I now believe it was added in the 2012b update, as the documentaion states that. So updating to 2012c will give the functionality.

Zuill

P.S.: Boy, am I not thjinking straight? If he's getting the colored notes, he must have the update. I need more coffee. Maybe the colored notes are in a percussion staff. if that is the case, then we're talking about a different issue. Colored percussion notes indicate notes that are not in the selected Layout. That is easily fixed. I probably should wait until confirmation on my query, and meanwhile, have another cup of java.
