just wondering how to get a fretboard for
the capoed chord with the title in italics
above it PLUS underneath have the actual
pitch chord in normal font. I've seen this
in numerous music books so there must
be a way. anybody?

When you put the fretboard between the capo chord and the actual pitch chord, there is a risk that the fretboard is misunderstood as being fretboard for the actual pitch chord.

So this order is probably better:

FRETBOARD FOR CAPO CHORD
capo chord in italics
actual pitch chord in normal

Anyway, here is how to put them above each other:

Using the "Type Into Score" mode,
type the chord,
hit UpArrow,
type the chord again

Now the chord appears twice, one above the other.
To make the upper chord a capo chord, switch to "manual Input" mode, and ctrl-click the handle on the upper chord. A contextual menu appears.
Select "Edit Chord Definition...", and the Chord Definition dialog box appears.
At the bottom of the Chord Definition dialog box, select "Capo At Fret:", and type the desired fret number in the text field.
Click OK.
The capo chord will automatically be transposed according to the fret number you typed. Its chord symbol will be italicized, if "Italicize Capo Chords" is selected in the Chord menu.

You can show/hide the fretboard via the contextual menu or via the Chord Definition dialog box.

I've tried this, and it works okay, although it is incredibly tedious. Also, the stacked chords seem to be overlapping each other, so I have to move each one individually. This is a place where Finale is ripe for an improvement.

Also, in my liturgical music books, the capoed chords are in parentheses, but if I try to do this in Finale, it doesn't understand me at all...
