For starters, let me say I just got a new computer with a new and better sound card recently.

Everything sounds fine with playback--much more realistic than before--but finale doesn't get all the articulations and details, like trills, mordents, slurs, shading, and most importantly, pedal markings(but it always gives staccato). These are things I've never expected before from my old shitty sound card (although it used to to read the pedal marks) but now? Is it something finale isn't programmed to read (at least by my settings) or is it the sound card?

SmartShapes, alas, have no effect on playback. Other staff and note expression can be to up to effect playback. To really get good playback, you need to become familiar with the MIDI tool. You need to input and edit MIDI data for each staff.
