Hey everyone,

I'm fairly new to finale and very new to the world of MIDI and I've been trying to connect my Yamaha YPT-220 to my computer (ultimately Finale), but when I connect my mio adapter to a USB port and enter finale, the MIDI data doesn't transfer over. Finale recognizes the mio adapter and connects to it (I have it set to Auto-Detect), but nothing happens when I use the entry tools and press the keyboard. Is my set-up lacking something? I have tried installing the Yamaha MIDI driver to my computer and every time it repeats the "no keyboard found" message. Could this be the problem? If someone with MIDI experience could reply that'd be great.

Thanks!

Do you hear sound in Finale? What is the MIDI Thru setting? What entry tool are you using? Simple or Speedy? What is the input method chosen for either tool? Which version of Finale? Which operating system (Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10)?

Parzival:

Listed below are some “didja doos”

1 Swap midi connectors on back of keyboard. It will not “smoke if you get the backward.
2 Go to Yamaha and download the manual for the YPT 220. It has some information about attaching to other midi devices.
3 I use a “EMU XMIDI 1X1 USB MIDI Interface” which has USB connector on one end, and two midi connector on other end. I use with Finale 2015.5 and a I7 laptop with Windows 10. This EMU device seems to work on various keyboards I use. Costs about $40 on amazon
4 Be sure that you have “Use Midi device for Input” under the “Simple” tab.

Good luck
