I recently swapped out the internal HD on my mac mini 6,1, to have one volume for 10.8 and a 2d for 10.11. In the 10.8 volume (migrated from the old 10.8 volume during the install of the 10.8 on the new), I opened up a recent F'14 score, tried to do a Save-As (for a new version of this score), and was told I didn't have permissions. Resetting permissions (Finder) on that file and two enclosing folders made no difference. Doing a Finder duplicate did work, and I thought I was safe.

However, in extracted parts, major chunks are not visible (the largest, 15 measures). The measure number (final measure) matches that in the score, so these missing measures somehow exist in Finale's data on the parts. Inserting enough blank measures and copy/pasting the missing notes manually works, but it screws up the measure counts.

Any guess on this? The Finale authorization came through the migration, but when I deauthorized/authorized (just in case), it turns out that authorizing wants to know the name of the volume on which it exists, which got changed during the HD swap-out.

TIA

The problem with the missing measures has nothing to do with the migration but is a Multimeasure Rest problem, as far as I know.

open one of the affected parts and click to the left of the first stave with the Selection Tool, so as to select the entire file. Right click on any measure and pick "Multimeasure Rests > Create". That should reveal the hidden bars. Did it work?

I'd suggest that, once all of the music is entered, you Generate Parts under "Document > Manage Parts". That will update the MM Rests once and for all.

Spot On! 10Q! Of three horns, the one which DIDN't get thus afflicted was the one with no MM rests. Any further ideas about what might have caused the MM rests to screw up these parts? (This has NEVER happened before !@#^$@!)

Good suggestion…

When you say, "migrated", did you use Migration Assistant, Time Machine or did you just copy the files over?

If the last, I know what the problem is. Go back, zip the folders on the old drive, then copy them over and unzip onto the new. This will grant the proper privileges and permissions.
