I have written a piece for piano and cello. Several times the cello has silent bars. In the seperat score for cello I should be able to write that the cello has for instance 1 or for instance 4 bars that are silent. How can I do that ? Thanks for your help.

Do you mean multi-measure rests? They are clearly described in the Help under this term. Or just create them from the Edit menu.

A single measure that has no notes should use a standard whole rest, which is the default for empty measures. Several consecutive measures with no notes can be written as a multi-measure rest (see example). I don't know whether you have Finale, Notepad, or something in between, or what version, so you should go to the help file that came with your program and search for Multi Measure Rest to see if and how it can be done in the program you have.

Migman: I LOVE that piece. ☺ I don't quite understand the o/p question. Perhaps it is a specific question about Notepad or some other app? Finale is clear enough about multi-measure rests.

I have the full version of Finale, and I don't know if all the various programs from Notepad on up can do multi-measure rests or not.

NotePad cannot. Everything else, can.

It may have been a matter of the OP not knowing what they are called, and so the help files are not quite so relevant.

To the OP: Please add the program you're using to your signature, in the forum Control Panel.

Migman: it's the horn part from 4:33, right?

You have to be careful with 4:33 v. 4:43 totles. You wouldn't want the royalties going to the wrong decomposer, would you?
