There must be an easy way to create an expression (shape? text?) that allows me to do the following:
( halfnote ) -- The halfnote is an actual half note placed within parentheses
and place it above the staff. What I want to do is to indicate that the beat is in half-notes (or quarter notes, or anything else). I've been trying convoluted ways (unsuccessfully) and figure I must be doing something too complicated. What am I missing?
I am using Finale 2003.
Thanks!

In 2003, it's easier to do as a shape expression. You could apply the Create Tempo Marking plugin, but adding the parentheses isn't as easy. If you add them in the expression, they sit a little low. You can create a separate expression for them, but that requires 2 expressions. So creating them as a shape expression is the best idea.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.
