As a bassist I need to write and play back notes that finale considers out of range i.e., notes on the B strings. I can't locate a place in finale that will all be to extent notes below "e" of the bass clef. This would be for playback. Any ideas?

There's a Knowledge Base article about extending the range of the Garritan instruments. Or, use the Softsynth for the bass, as it can handle those notes.

I created a bass oboe from one of the Garritan English Horns.

The instrument is there in the list, but I can't access it at all from within Finale or the Aria player.

now, I KNOW that I had done this previously and been able to access this instrument, but for the life of me, cannot figure out how I did it then to replicate it now.

Finale (started with ver. 3.0) 2010, 2011, 2012b installed
Win XP
basically ALL Garritan sounds, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

Thanks Zuill! I searched before I posted, must have missed it. Do you know the link? btw, It would seem that since the contrabass typically tunes down to D, it would be included in the pitch set for that instrument.

You may also find this link on SFZ files to be useful.

I don't quite understand this. I see that you can edit the sfz text file, to alter the "known" range of the instrument, but what about the sample itself? Surely, if there isn't a sample for the new lowest note, then it won't sound?

I think they want you to buy the full Garritan Personal Orch, where, for example, Bass Cl goes to wriiten Low C.
But someone else posted that they able to do it with editing the Text File. Not me, tho.
I've used Soft Synth Contra Bass a few times, but the sound is different form the Garritan, sounded lousy in context.

I'm not suggesting that this is a feasible way to extend the range.  All I am doing is presenting the link from Garritan where they state it can be done.  I have never done it myself.  However, it seems Garritan would know.  Also the link on SFZ files is useful for a detailed understanding of the file structure.
