Hello!

I am using a 24" full hd monitor, but for wiev entirely large orchestral scores the zoom is very small, the notes are minuscule

I am considering to buy an 28" 4K that can rotate the screen for view large orchestral scores in the width band as the height

I'm not sure if a 31", 32" or 34" 4k monitor would be too large to work closely

what is your ideal size for all genre of scores?

Hi Abraham

I can offer only one suggestion/piece of advice.

On a USB stick, load a high quality PDF score.
Go to a compute shop which has the monitors you are considering
Convince the sales staff to let you load the pdf and view it on different monitors. See how comfortable your eyes are looking at the screen close up.

I have a 22" monitor that rotates to portrait mode. It works fine for me.

I work with 27" monitor for scores (rotate mode possible) and 22" (portret mode) for other programs - PDF, Transcribe, Notepad, etc., at the same time and i'm quite comfortable.

I use 40" 4K and I am really happy with it. It is very comfortable (pitch dot the same as in 27" Dell 2540x1440px).

I use a 28" 4K in portrait mode, which is very good for showing a full score without zooming in and out (and without breaking my neck.) It's not good for dialog boxes etc as they appear too small, so I have a 27" also in portrait mode ("2K" i.e 2560x1440) beside that, onto which I drag dialogs etc. if I need to read them closely. On either side of this setup I use two landscape 24" HD displays for other stuff, like when I have to copy stuff from a pdf into Finale etc...

(Finale 1.0 (1988) -> 2014.5) using 2012c (on Win since 1997)

Did you need any specific graphics card to drive the 4K (if so, which one?), and do you run it at actuall size (1" printed = 1" on screen)?

The one negative about large monitors that I encounter, I engrave for publishers using 9.5" x 12.5" as a page size. I can view that page size on my 22" monitor at larger than actual size. That means that the white space between objects on my display is smaller when printed on paper. During proofs, I often need to make adjustments for objects that are too close together. Before I had this monitor, I was always working on a display size that was smaller than the actual size and didn't have this problem.

I have two 23" monitors side by side, and when I need to work on a large-ish score I'll simply swivel them both to portrait mode and work that way, with one page on each monitor.

Finale (started with ver. 3.0) using 2012 (2014 has been shelved for its lack of support for older Garritan libraries) under Windows 8.1
basically ALL Garritan libraries, plus XSample Chamber Ensemble.

I got the Philips BDM4065, and have it wall mounted behind my desk so that I sit about 2' from the screen. I got it 6 months ago after much pondering. I could never find any retail stores that had any 4ks in stock, so wasn't able to see it until it arrived. I believe they now make a 43" model as well.

You need a graphics card with a DsiplyPort 1.2 output to get the full resolution. It has HDMI inputs as well, but they give you lesser resolution. I have the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950, which works nicely.

Edit: I just looked back at Amazon where I got it, and the price has gone WAY up. Don't know what that's about, but glad I got it when I did!
