File menu > print (or press command-p) and select "save as pdf" in the "print" dialog box. (This works in OSX; I can't recall how it was done in previous systems.)

As far As I Remember, printing to pdf in Mac OS 9, would require a third party utility.
Having pdf creation built into the OS was new with Mac OS X.

In the first versions of Mac OS X (10.2 and earlier, I think), you had to select "Output Options" in the Print dialog box's pop up menu, before you came to the "save as pdf".

Peter and Jim,

Thanks for the reply. I am still running OS 9 so I may have to figure out a third party converter.

Again, many thanks for the help.

Best,

Fran: I seem to remember a utility called "Print to PDF" (or maybe "PrinttoPDF") that created a desktop "printer" in OS 9 from which you could print PDF files from any application. It's been a while since I was in OS 9, but it may still be available at versiontracker.com.
