Hello ! I need to slip an Expression Mark along two measures but I don't know how to make a (small) break in the barline between the two respective staves (or systems). I have been trying a solution through Measure and Staff Tools' Dialog boxes but unsuccessfully. Can Finale 2002 do it or not ? I appreciate any help you can give.

Andrew,

Double-click your expression mark and select Enclose Expression. Change the size of the rectangle to your liking and set the line thickness to zero.

Select the 'opaque' option and the background will be whitened out.
