Just updated to Sierra, and everything seems to work (mostly) fine in 2104.5 (some missing Main Tool Palette items missing as others have noted), but when I tried to import an XML file, big problem.
It seems that Sierra has an updated version of Java that 2104.5 doesn't recognize. Anyone found a work around?

If you've updated your OS from a previous major version (i.e. El Cap, Yosemite, Mavs, etc), then all Java installations will be REMOVED. You will need to re-install them if you need them.
You can still install Apple's Java 6 for use in Sierra. Needed for some Adobe Creative Suite apps, as well as Finale. (Fin 25 removes the Java dependency altogether, I think.)

Any other versions of Java you might have are neither needed for nor compatible with Finale.

SOLVED! Followed the links through the MM Help Centre and downloaded Java SE 6. Would that all Finale problems were so easily solved. . . .

Finale 25 does not make calls to Java.

When Oracle bought SUN, Apple was no longer allowed to distribute Java with the OS beginning with Mavericks. You have to get Java 8 from Oracle but it is 64bit only. Java 6 supports 32bit apps such as Finale 2014.5 and earlier.

MusicXML still uses Java in Finale v25. But it's a 64-bit version of Java that is bundled with the MusicXML functionality, just like we have done on Windows for many years. So there is no more need for Apple Java 6 with Finale v25. Just one of the many benefits of Finale now being 64-bit!
