Cave Girl is back! I'm trying to use D.C. al Coda, and put a "bug" that will point to the coda, but it always splits the staff in two. How can I get the staff into one line? I tried layout options as before (click on last good staff, SHIFT, click on problem staff) but it didn't seem to work.

Thanks,
Cave Girl

Could you make a sample file that shows the problem?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by a staff split in two. Are you jumping to the coda from the middle of a measure?

I assume you are using the "Create Coda System" plugin, right? What the plugin does behind the scene is the following (please see the attached tiff):

I started with 12 measures, with four measures in each of three systems. I selected measure 11 and ran the plugin, telling it to put the "bug" in measure six. It forced two measures from system three down to system four, leaving two measures in each. Next, it moved the right system margin of system 3 over to the left, and the left system margin of system four over to the right, leaving a small gap between the end of measure 10 and the beginning of measure 11. Next, it moved system four up until it was in the same vertical position as system three, making it look like there were only three systems while there are actually four. If you switch to the page layout tool, you will notice that the system numbers for systems three and four are sitting on top of each other.

So, how do you change it so there is actually one "third" system and not what looks like a broken one? You would have to change the margins of the third and fourth systems with the page layout tool, and combine the two measures of systems three and four with "fit measures." The easiest way to fix the measures is to select the last system that hasn't been changed (system two, in my example). When you look at the "Edit System Margins" window, you will see that selecting a system will load that system's coordinates into the window. If you change the "Change System:" and "Thru:" fields to three and four and hit "Apply," it will set the margins to what ever system two had. Then you select the four measures and fit them four to a system.

Personally, I'd keep it the way the plugin made it, but if you want it differently, that's how you do it.
