Looking to insert music into a theory dissertation, since the university now only accepts dissertations electronically. I have Finale 2004 and Microsoft Office on a G4 laptop (10.4.1). Thanks!

Best way is to do this:

In Finale

1. File > Print
2. Click the PDF button in the lower left corner of the print dialog
3. Choose Save as PDF...
4. Navigate to the location you want
5. Save

Now, open the PDF in Preview

1. File > Save As...
2. Choose JPEG from the Format popup menu
3. Navigate to the location you want
4. Save

Finally, open Word

1. Insert > Picture > From File...
2. Navigate to your JPEG
3. Click Insert

If you want to adjust size and positioning, double-click the image to get to the controls dialog box.

Hope this helps.

Gregg

Still no updates applied yet
because not even 2007c
completely fixes the hyphen bug.

The PDF output from Finale will look much better (less fuzzy or jagged) than if you turned it into bitmaps like a JPEG. If you think the acceptance of your dissertation would be at all connected with how professional it looks, consider finding someone at your university (faculty or student) with access to QuarkXPress or InDesign, and just use Word to compose your text. You will want to get their help, so think of something you can offer in return if necessary.

For my dissertation I used the Graphics tool to export TIFFs out of Finale (600 dpi) and brought those into Word. They probably added quite a bit to the file size, but they looked fabulous (I had to submit a physical printout).
