I am having a problem saving files as MP3's.  When I "save to audio file", the drop box in the window that appears sometimes doesn't give the option of MP3 or WAV.  It only has the WAV.  I'm currently using Finale 2010 on Windows XP.  I've been using Finale since '91, and I've never seen this before.  Either something was consistently working or borken.  I have not found a pattern of behavior that will constantly produce this situation.  Soes anyone have any ideas?

If the file is set up to use basic MIDI sounds, you can save as .mp3 or .wav. If you're using Garritan instruments, you can only save as .wav (then you'll need to convert it using another program, if you want .mp3 output).

The files were all set up to use basic MIDI sounds. Garritan is not a factor in the problem.

Actually the gating factor is whether you're set up to play through VST or MIDI. GPO is not the issue; SoftSynth played through VST can be saved only to a WAV.

SAJ,

Thank you. That was the problem. I have corrected the settings, and all is well. My only question is how did the VST get selected? I've only used MIDI in the past.

Al,
I think (and I emphasize THINK) that 2010 defaults to VST. At least, that's what it seems like in PM2010, which never had the VST before, IIRC.
