I have just been sent some Sibelius files to reset in Finale in the publishers usual housestyle. I've got scorch and the Sibelius Demo, is there really no way for me to print these out without buying the full version?
Secondly, they supply to a major online publisher linked to the Sibelius site, and have started suggesting that maybe we could swap to Sibelius in the near future so that the Finale to Scorch reformatting isn't neccessary. I am reluctant to be enthusiastic for obvious reasons also because I have their data base of some 2000+ works already set in Finale. I tried opening Finale files in Sibelius and I have to admit it worked much better than I thought. The only real problem seemed to be with slurs not always going in the right direction. Question: are slurs really as difficult to edit on Sibelius as they seemed? Do they not have smart expressions? Anyway it seems inevitable that I'm going to have to get Sibelius as other clients have mooted supplying work to me in Sibelius.
Anyway, just to reiterate my main question....can I print Sibelius files without buying Sibelius....

David,
I haven't worked with it, but I thought you could print Sibelius files from Scorch.

I have Finale 2002 but didn't bother upgrading my Sibelius to version 2. In version 2, Sibelius offer printing as an option when generating scorch files for web download.
Version 1 doesn't have this facility. Sibelius offer a service on their sibeliusmusic.com where one can post free files or ones for sale (for which a percentage is charged).
Finale 2002 files can only be opened in Sibelius 2 (having been saved as etf files first. However Finale 2001 files can be opened in Sibelius 1.
Yes many imported slurs are a mess and must be deleted and re-entered in Sibelius 1. I'm not sure if this is so in version 2.
If you have to re-edit Sibelius files in Finale, it seems a crazy thing to have to do. Perhaps I misunderstand what you say. Perhaps you should ask your sibelius supplier to post his files on sibeliusmusic.com so you could then print them out. I'm still confused why you are doing any of this work.

I think if slurs get messed up in converted Finale files in Sibelius, all you have to do is filter them throughout the score and do Reset Position (in the Layout menu) to fix them up.
Slurs aren't fantastically easy to edit in Sibelius -- they only have two handles and using the arrow keys to nudge them can be erratic -- but they're improved in Sibelius 2.
(Yes, I use both programs.)

S******* can't handle conversion of two particular things to save itself! I tried importing one of my files into the demo, and it came out screwed up big time. Would take longer to fix it up than to start again. I don't want to say what the problems are, because I don't really want to make a feature request for the competition!
Cheers,
Tim
(P.S. If you email me and I know you, I'll tell you, though you probably know already!)
