How can I get 12/8 time to beam in groups of 3, and also for a chord chart to just give me 4 slashes instead of 12? Basically, to display as 4/4 but subdivided into 3's. . . .

The key signature would not be 12 8th notes, but 4 dotted quarters.

If you control-click, that time signature is in the pop-down list.

THANKS! I swear I tried all that manually. . . forgot about the pre-defined ones.
