I am extremely hesitant to write this or even say this aloud, but maybe it holds some secret for others who have had similar issues.

As I have posted previously, I purchased 2014 when it came out and it would never open. It would crash every time. Removed the plug-ins and it opened but when I selected MOTU for my audio interface, CRASH. And so on. Updated to 2014. Same problem. There definitely was a conflict with the plug-ins and with the audio interface.

Well, today, I believe I've witnessed a miracle. I have asked others to confirm that I am wide awake, that I am sober (boo) and this is not a hallucination. Here's what happened.

I took my laptop with me today to my office. Doing this means I left my audio interface and my software dongles for Waves and other plug-ins at home. I didn't them for today's tasks.

I wanted to look at a finale file for a second and double-clicked on the file. I realized of course that it was going to open in 2014 and realizing my mistake I waited for it to crash so I could go to 2012.

Hells bells it opened.

After my initial surprised, I surmised that it was because of the aforementioned lack of interface and dongle. I did a quick tour of the new program, saw what is new and quit. Just for fun, I double-clicked again and it opened.

Fast-foward to tonight. I decided to experiment. Fired everything up with my MOTU 828mkii hooked up, double-clicked on the document icon and waited for the crash.

It opened. It played back. It let me try a few things.

Ok. Quit, insert software dongle. Now it will crash! Double-clicked. It opened and it worked.

Restarted computer just to see what might happened. It worked. No plug-in conflicts. No audio interface issues. WTF!!!!!

Tomorrow it might not work again, who knows and I haven't done enough in 2014 to experience all of the other issues many users have discovered. But, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The only thing I can possible guess is on the initial start up of the program back in Decmber? November? something had to load onto the computer and it was being blocked by whatever was causing the conflict. With my opening 2014 without the interface or the dongles, the roadblock was deactivated, Finale did what it needed to do and now (I HOPE) those conflicts are gone.

We'll see.

I have MOTU 828Mk ii and Finale worked first time for me. If the problem is where you suspect (and of course it might be something else) then maybe it's not with the MOTU driver.
