Hello all - I am desperately trying to get a few of my finale files from my old iMac to my new PC. The PC won't open .mus files or midi files generated by F2000 on the Mac....

any suggestions?

1) Don't use double click to open the files. Try launching Finale on the PC first and use the File menu, open.
2) Make sure all the files have been saved with the .mus suffix.
Normally, file formats are compatible between Macs and PCs for a few years now, but I don't know about 2000 mac files.
If you don't succeed, find somenone with a more recent Mac version of Finale, ask him to open and re-save the files in the new MAC version.
Use suggestions 1 and 2 and they should normally open in the PC version.

Thanks for your help. No luck getting it to work so far.

Since #1 and #2 have not worked, can anyone help me update this so I can work on it in 2006 on PC?

Try saving in ETF-format on your Mac first, then try opening the file under Windows. ETF should work better for conversions than MUS (own experience).
Good luck.

OK, I think I am one step further. The file was compressed (probably with Stuffit on the Mac). Wrong suffix, should have been .sit or sitx. I unstuffed with Stuffit and re-saved in 2005b (Mac). Here it is.

The solution could be : on the Mac, make sure you de-compress the files with Stuffit (Expander).
Save them with the .mus suffix.
open them in Finale PC

OK - so now I feel like a total pest.

Somehow the file I uploaded was missing a significant amount of Data. michelp - is it possible that you could decompress this and re-post it? I tried everything I know to do it myself. My stuffit won't do a thing with it. I have tried saving it different ways, expanding it different ways.....I tried updating my stuffit expander. Nothing I do works. This is for a job i am trying to get so any help would be more than appreciated..

Thanks so much to anyone who can help

OK here it is. I unstuffed the file, no problem. But strangely enough, my first try to save it as 2005 file produced a file with only 5 or 6 staves, the other ones were missing (and not hidden by a staff view ). I tried again, and it worked. Try this file and make sure after dowloading it, that it has a .mus suffix.
