I've just noticed that the Finale Lyrics font has gone missing since I upgraded to 2012c. Has anybody else got the same problem?

Must be a Mac thing. I still have it in Windows 2012c.

Thanks Zuill - I've found three Finale Lyrics ttf files in the Macintosh HD/ Library/Fonts folder, along with Finale Mallets, Numerics, etc., which are showing up in Finale. Is there a way to rebuild the fonts list?

Chris,

Curious. I see it in the Library folder too, but it doesn't show up in Font Book.

Bill,

Does that mean you can't access it from Finale either? I've attached a screenshot showing what I get if I try to select the lyrics font from a score already using it.

I don't even get the "missing" listing -- it doesn't show up at all. I suppose that's because you used that font in the piece before you upgraded.

Have you reported this to MM? I will report it too.

Bill,

Yes, I only get this on files that were using the font, otherwise it's not even listed. I'll report it now, I just wanted to check on the forum first.

I got the problem, too.
FontBook reported that the Finale Lyrics font is damaged and that I should not use it.

I then restored Finale Lyrics from my Time Machine backup, and now the font is working again.

It certainly looks like the 2012c updater somehow damaged the Finale Lyrics font.

Interesting. Same problem here. Not that I ever used them but it's strange that the latest version of Finale has somehow corrupted the three lyrics fonts. When I tried to load them into FontBook, I got the message that I didn't have sufficient privileges. Manually reinstalling them had no effect. I also restored them from Time Machine and all is well. Hmmm.

Ditto here. Hooray for Time Machine.

I wonder if installing the Font Pack would also cure the problem.

I got this response from Christopher at customer service:

It appears that the font is installed (with a few updates to characters), but there is a permissions setting that is incorrect. We're working on options for correcting this, but in the meantime (and if you are comfortable), you can use the following command in Terminal to restore the font:

sudo chmod 644 /Library/Fonts/Finale\ Lyric*

The C update installer deletes all Postscript versions of your Finale fonts and reinstalls all the TrueType ones. Now it appears that the Lyric font has the wrong permissions when it gets installed.

Arrgh. I have complained vigorously about the rudeness of doing this and the pointlessness of messing with the fonts if the fonts themselves have not been updated (for the better).

Yes, I got the same response from Christopher and it has fixed the problem. I wonder what the few updates to the characters are?

Hello,

We've updated the Fontpack to correct this issue, so no need to work in Terminal. You can find the update here:

http://makemusic.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/749

As for the updates in the font itself, we put in some additional diacritical marks.

That installer looks like it only installs the TrueType versions. No sign of the Postscript fonts that were deleted?

Are we to infer that MM is phasing out the PS Type 1 format?

One again I updated without checking this but the C update seems to have left my Postscript fonts alone and, at least on my systems, didn't reinstall the dormant TT versions. The only thing I had to do was reinstall the Lyrics font.

The new fonts introduced with 2011 -- Finale Alpha, Mallets and Percussion came with Postscript versions. However, for 2012, only the TrueType versions are installed. The new Lyrics font is also only available in a TrueType version.

TBH, I haven't actually analysed the difference in output between the PS and TT versions. Something for a rainy day, perhaps.
