can anyone help me. I am new to all this and have jsut bought a yamaha keyboard with usb connection for use with printmusic 2002. I cant seem to get the computer and the keyboard to talk. Is it because the printmusic 2002 soft ware only works with midi? any advice?

MIDI and USB are two different animals. MIDI is the language your keyboard speaks and USB is the type of port it probably uses. You might have better luck if you repost your question on either the Mac or Windows forum with a complete description of your computer hardware and Yamaha keyboard.

If you are using mac, a lot of hardware (like your keyboard) ships with drivers that work with ODX.2 but not OSX.3. I suggest you go to the Yamaha website and get the latest driver for your machine. Install the driver with the keyboard NOT plugged in. Turn the compute off, plug the keyboard in and re-boot the computer.
Does your keyboard have a mains power supply or does it draw power from the USB connection. If it does take power from the USB connection, you will need to plug it into the USB port on the computer, not any spare ones on the keyboard.

Roland makes an adapter called the UB-1. It'll go from Midi In/Out to USB. Contact your local music store and see if they carry it; if not, search for it. Good luck!

There are a number of MIDI converters. I use MidiSport 2X2. It is an external box that you plug your MIDI cables into, then it has a USB connection. It's small, works great, and costs about $80

it's possible the yamaha usb on the keyboard is for audio and not midi, unless its a m-lan which transmits midi and audio in and out on a single line.if you can write the name of the yamaha unit and if it also has midi ins and outs would be helpful in answering you
