Hi I am using Finale PrintMusic 2011 programe. The tie tool has disappeared from the simple entry tool palette and I can't figure out how to get it back. Why has it disappeared? I am not a computer whiz so the answer will have to be easy to understand. Jan32

Have you restarted the computer?

Have you resized the palette? You may have made it too small for the tool to show. (In the meantime, remember that you really don't need that tool, most of the time. Tapping the T key will tie a note to the next one, in Simple Entry.)

Interesting, because PrintMusic, like Finale 2014, doesn't have the ability to edit tool bars. Try as I might I could not get rid of the tie tool. The only thing I could do is hide the entry simple entry tool bar. BTW, in PM you can't resize the tool bars, but I did manage to move one off the screen. (But could get it back after restarting PM.)

Not edit, but I thought the Windows version could reshape the palettes. Sorry for any confusion.

Yes, you can reshape the palettes, but you can't change the size or edit them to add or remove icons.

But you can, at least with Finale 2011.

That was never an option in PM, though.

OK, but worth correcting the misinformation about Finale. Perhaps Jan can remove finale.ini and see if that helps. Where does PrintMusic store that?

Can someone check if the customization still exists in Finale 2014 (see attached images)?

[EDIT: sounds like this has been widely discussed, and I haven't been paying attention!]

...er what misinformation about Finale? You cannot edit the tools bars in Finale 2014. Period. There have been innumerable complaints about this.

I stand corrected. I thought the complaint was that you no longer had the repertoire of button styles.

Both. 2014 is quite limited here. it's one case where KISS doesn't apply.

I use the Tie tool in Simple quite often if I want to easily edit ties. By selecting the tie, and only the tie, I can click ties on or off where needed (in a hurry and missed some, or whatever). So, not having that on the Palette would be disastrous for my workflow.

That's when I use it, as well, in the edit stage. Particularly for tying chords, since a single click ties all the notes.

Thankyou for your help. I was about to try and and do as Mike suggested when I clicked on the top of the page and it lifted up a bit and lo and behold the tie tool re-appeared. I noticed the tuplet tool was underneath the tie but that is still under the edge of the screen. I will have a go at using the T to make tuplets. Thanks for your help. Jan Noble

No, you use the T to make ties. You use the 9 to make tuplets!

Right, but just to add some more "tie" input - if you need to tie (or untie) many staves and/or measures at once, the JW Tie/Untie Notes Plug-in is, as far as I have experienced, the easiest and quickest way to do this
