Did you know we have a blog in which we post helpful tips and user stories?

finalemusic.com/blog/

We tend to share our blog updates on our Facebook and Twitter pages, but not on the forum. I haven't been posting them to here to avoid clutter.

Would there be interest in this? In addition, this could spur some more conversation and users could share additional/alternate tips!

Thanks!

Perhaps a sticky topic on the forum would be an appropriate place to note the latest blog posts; that way, there is also one central repository on the forum for the blog updates.

NO!!!!!! ...
Please no more stickies. In fact, PLEASE lose some of the current ones. They appear on every page of the forum listings, taking up a significant amount of space on every page, even though us regulars have seen them over and over, time after time, on (did I mention?) every page. It's worse than the occasional SPAM we get, which is not on every page - because day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, we have to wade through this sort of stuff ...

on every page.

So PLEASE, less stickies - and preferably only on the first page of each forum, not on every page!

Brian

Hi Brian/everyone,

I can certainly remove some of the sticky threads. Any in particular that you'd want to keep? The compatibility info ones will stay, but any of the others can go if no one really uses them.

Thank you Justin!

The forum looks much better now.

By the way, we love Zuill, but "Just Some Suggestions for Forum Use" can be easily combined with the "Computer Information" thread (with a link to Zuill's thread inside the text). That'll make an even better looking forum.

Hi Justin,
My suggestion would be to make a normal thread where just add on a new post each time there is a new blog post; make it non-commentable (I assume you can do that) so that it stays reasonably short, and start a new thread when it gets to more than one page. That way it will come to the top once a week, which makes it reasonably visible, without permanently adding to the clutter.

Hi Justin,

WOW! Thanks very much for removing some of those stickies! That's already much better, and it makes the forum easier to read on a typical small laptop or iPad screen.

Possible further improvements? How about combining the three "read only/locked" stickies, "MakeMusic Forum Policy", "Computer Information" and "Finale Support for Windows 7" into a single 3-message thread, called "READ THIS FIRST"?

Just a thought ...

... but meanwhile, thanks once again! :-)

Brian

I don't see why we still need the sticky Finale Support for Win7. That was put there 2 versions ago when Windows 7 was new. Now that the OS is maturing, I don't think anyone wonders if they still need XP to run Finale.

I think that the NotePad Limitations sticky was convenient, since it gave us a place to steer new users complaining that "My program won't do xxx." However, the shorter sticky list is nice. I'll try to put together a NPL list, and post it on my tips page.

Actually it was something of an anachronism from the days Notepad was free. Now that it's priced (albeit at a low level), Notepad is no longer a "special" case. After all, we never had stickies for "Allegro Limitations", "PrintMusic Limitations", "Songwriter Limitations", etc - thank heavens!

Surely the place for ANYTHING like this is a heavily moderated FAQ topic ...

Hi all,

I re-organized some of the stickies. I took down the NotePad article since it hasn't had a ton of traffic recently. I want to keep the Forum Policy thread on it's own, so it's really obvious to find.

PM me if I forgot something, or there's something someone would like added!

It would be nice to see the Finale Blog more integrated with the forums, along with perhaps a wiki and a file storage area for user submitted files (templates, HP preferences, etc). In essence, a Finale "community" site instead of isolated forums and blog etc. Jive is a great platform for this sort of thing, I hope MakeMusic is considering it as an option for a replacement forum package.
