I'm new to Finalescript, but I've been playing around with it a bit. I'd like to automagically change the stems of four quarter notes in a measure. Here's what I want to do (don't ask why):

menu item "File/Tools/Advanced Tools/Special Tools/Custom Stem Tool"
// then somehow I need all four boxes highlighted
double click
// then I select one of the stems offered in the Shape Selection box)

Obviously, I'm missing a couple of lines - and maybe more. This is for Finale 2010. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I've tried the following on my Mac, with Finale 2010 and it works. The only thing you need to do is create a shortcut for the Finalescript, because you'll need to have your mouse pointer hovering over the bar you want to affect.

menu item "custom stem"
click
press control + "A" // This should select all the boxes in the bar/measure
press return // This should open the Shape Selection dialogue box that allows you to pick your custom stem
down arrow 12 //Use these commands to navigate to the stem you want
right arrow 1 //Use these commands to navigate to the stem you want
button "select"

Once you've set up a shortcut key command, you just hover the mouse over the bar you want to affect, hit the shortcut, and wham... it should work.

Adjust the numbers after the "down arrow" and "right arrow" commands to navigate to the custom stem that you want to use within the shape selection dialogue box.

Let me know if that works for you, and happy scripting!

James

Thank you James. I'll give this a try in a few days and let you know how it turns out....

You might be better of with Jari's Williamsson's JW Change plug-in. It contains a great interface for selecting and changing elements really easily.
So you can select flipped stems only on quarter notes in the current selection.

The JW Change plug-in is in the Downloads > Beta section. There are loads of other really useful plug-ins in the Download area.

Thank you James, that does work! (And thanks Wiggy; that's indeed a powerful plugin.)

I'd like to also run a script similar to the one above that changes the note head. So far, it's not working because I can't seem to navigate the Symbol Selection window (the arrow statements don't seem to work). Is it possible to use a Metatool number for a new note head?

The Finale script manual does state that Finale script cannot make selections from selection boxes. Presumably this is because the contents are always changing and are different from file to file.

Of course finding a solution is great when it is possible, but i think our default position should be to expect it to not work.
