I need to display a graphic under each note in a piece, which represents the proper fingering pattern for that note (the instrument is a Native American flute - it's not a stringed instrument).

I have an uncompressed TIFF graphic for each fingering pattern, and I know that I can go note by note, placing the proper graphic under each note.

However, it would be much easier if the proper graphic appeared every time I enter a note on the staff.  Alternately, if I could run a Finale script (after the notes have been entered) which would add the graphics underneath the notes on the staff, that would work fine too.
 
Does anyone have a Finale script which "does something" based on the note represented on the staff?  If not, might you know of a resource (book, person, website) that could help me with this?

In Finale, graphics can only be page or measure attached so I'm pretty sure it's not possible to script fingerings for specific pitches. You'd need a "note attached" parameter. You might contact Tobias Giesen at TgTools.com to see if it's possible to write a plugin. He, if anyone, could do it, although it might not be cheap.

Have you considered designing fingerings in Finale's handy dandy Shape Designer? You could enter them as Expressions with Metatool shortcuts, and take advantage of auto positioning options built into the Expression Tool. See the attached file - it's very crude but will give you an idea of what's possible within Finale.

For woodwind instrument fingerings you could also try the Chord Tool's Fretboard Editor.

It's quite easy to create a fingering diagram as a "fretboard diagram for a 2-string instrument".

Thanks for the various suggestions as to how to create the fingering diagrams. I have been working with the shape editor (as suggested above), and may continue to work in that fashion. I've got to try the 'fretboard diagram for a 2-string instrument' though. That's one I would not have thought of.
