Is there any way to create a single note with an extended beam?

forgive the ascii artwork, but something that looks like this:
   __________
  |
 x

I've found one workaround, which is:

turn on beaming options>beams over rests.
then drag the rests off of the page (using the edit frame dialog in speedy).

however, this is a pain, because it turns on beam over rests for the whole document, meaning that each one has to be manually edited.

I've also considered putting the beam in as a shape, but that is also a pain.

thanks!, james

If you only need this graphically, enter a 2nd 8th note, then use special tools to put blank character for a notehead and put a blank custom stem on that note.

...and if spacing is an issue, then turn the added 8th note into a ziplet:

1 eighth in the space of 0 eighths

Set the tuplet's "Number" and Shape" to display "Nothing".

If playback is a issue, use the MIDI Tool to set the ziplets's Key Velocity to zero.

Excellent advice.  Thanks.

And, the ziplet is something I've not come across, and I'm sure it has many uses.

Best, james
