So Im playing around with 7/4 time sig, but I cant get it to play back strait. Im working with a run of 16-16th notes, and instead of getting...

...I get...

** ** ** ** ** ** ** **

I really hope this is just me missing a "anti-swing" switch somewhere, but I cant figure it out.

This is just in playback right? Not on the page?
If you turn off Human Playback, does it play correctly?

Right... Not on the page. Happens with both Human Playback as well as without it.

What sound are you using?
Some sounds take time to articulate fully so may not sound every 16th note on time in a rapid passage.

This might be especially evident in the case of some string section sounds that take a long time to start.
Such patches often have names such as "slow strings" or something similar.

Slow your tempo down to quarter=30 and see if all the 16ths sound fully.

2 questions:

1. Does it happen with meters other than 7/4?

2. You say that you have 16 - 16th notes in the measure. Is that all that's in the measure? Are the other 3 beats accounted for?

(okay, that was actually 3 questions :-)

Sorry... I set up this thread at 2am in the morning. Wasn't too coherent.

It was 14 - 8th notes. No, it does not happen with any other meter. (but then again, I only just got this app a few weeks ago. Haven't had time to play with anything but 3/4 and 4/4 in this program)

It sounds like the system is playing back notes in groups of two. The first note a stutter, the second fully formed. (In regards to "slow strings" I have to admit though. I'm near having a brain aneurysm trying to get GPO/Finale to sound a proper stabbing staccato with the strings, but that's for another thread.)

And a new symptom (or fix). I switched off the "Click and Count-off" which I was using as a metronome during playback. Now everything sounds fine. Turned it on again and the off beat returns. It doesn't look as if the settings for this feature should effect the way notes sound off. Maybe its my system...

Well, it works perfectly here (Finale 2005b, Vista 64) - I entered several measures of quavers in 7/4 time, and it played back dead evenly ...

... sounds like you've got a swing or HP issue!

Yea... it only happens with the "Click and Count-off" turned on. Odd. Guess I just leave that off from now on.

Thanks for the help though.
