I've scanned two pages of sheet music and neither of them displays the notation such as accents, staccato, crescendo, diminuendo, etc. It also sometimes will turn multi measure rests into multiple measures of quarter notes.
Are there any tips for this, or many someone has made a patch to include these notations? Also, if I add these for several notes, is there a way to hot-key the notation so I can do it quickly? I tried typing in the numbers above them within the articulation tool, and nothing happened. There must be a quicker way than to constantly select and double click a note using the articulation tool, and then scroll through to find it each time I want to change the value of the note.
Thanks. | Back to Top | |

To use the articulation metatools, hold down the metatool key and click above the note. At least, skim through the tutorial so you learn the basics.

(This is not restricted to Finale, but to any program that have to interpret an image and turn it into something meaningful.) I am not surprised that many elements would be missing. Once you learn Finale basics, adding articulations and expressions can be done very quickly. For example, pressing the "s" key with the articulation tool selected will add a staccato dot to the selected note(s). There are other fast ways as well, but that's mine.
As for transposing--it is laughably easy in Finale. Finale 2014.5

I use SmartScore Pro, with pretty darn good results. Most scanning errors can be corrected more easily in the scanning program, before sending the XML to Finale. I scan wihout text recognition, since that seems to be the weakest aspect of SSP.
As Ron and N. Point out, expressions, articulations, and transposing are more easily done in Finale. Learning how to use the metatools helps greatly.
In any case, both Finale and SmartScore are complicated programs, and take time to learn. Don't be discouraged by initial results. Mike Rosen www.specialmillwork.com
