2014 up and running. Absolutely no problems with install. JABB and GPO were both recognized and integrated with this install.

However . . . can't find the File toolbar. Toolbar with open/save icons. Not listed with the other toolbars like it was in 2012 and earlier.

It's not there. A lot of icons are no longer with us, having gone to that great bit bucket in the sky.

Hi Bill,

We did remove some toolbars on Windows:

www.finalemusic.com/UserManuals/Finale2014Win/Finale.htm#Finale/Interface_Changes2014.htm%3FTocPath%3D_____3

I am definitely interested in feedback on this however, and would suggest sending some feedback to our support team (these get collected in a report that we review constantly and helps with development priority and direction):

Please give them back to us. If the people who made the decision to take them away don't use them, that doesn't mean other people like myself absolutely rely on them.

Almost every other application I use allows customizable toolbars. It would be nice to have fully customizable ribbons.

The new 2014 document manual says the "toolbars (and their customization), which duplicated commands available in Finale's menus, have been removed to free up screen space."  I know all don't have it, but I use a 27" monitor and have plenty of screen space.  I have all the toolbars and palettes available in 2012 open as icons along the top, left, and right edges of my screen.  I have grown accustomed to using them.  A great time saver.  Please bring them back.mad

Support case submitted.

[EDIT]  Make that monitor size inches (") not feet (').  Sorry!

Yes, this change seriously affects my workflow, particularly since I use a relatively small screen and I have everything set up to show only what I normally use and want to be able to get to easily and quickly. One could of course relearn and only use keyboard shortcuts, but WHY? It was great the way it was before, why remove a feature that was already established and working. Wrong decision as far as I am concerned. Support case submitted. Hope there'll be more submissions, so that this will be fixed in the first update (as was the case with that unfortunate un-resizable score manager last time - people seemed to have complained a lot, and it was fixed pretty quickly!).

Navigating via keyboard shortcuts will always be faster than reaching for the mouse every few seconds and disrupting workflow awesomeness! :)

I am so happy Finale 2014 is more "keyboard shortcut" oriented instead of silly mouse dependencies from circa 1992.
(fighting words?)

But seriously, I'm happy 2014 is out and rockin'.

If you're already using the mouse, your argument doesn't hold. One could make the counter argument: keyboard shortcuts are typically two-handed (Ctrl, Alt, Shift), so you need to put down the mouse to type the shortcut, then grab the mouse again.

Try Shift-Alt-S. You get 2 shortcuts for the price of 1.

I sorta was tongue in cheek, but also sorta not.
If you just stay away from the mouse completely, then I win :)

about the 2 shortcuts: I remembered one of them can be changed (the Finalescript shortcut). Anyway, it was fun while it lasted.

Submitted a support case, but seriously. This is a significant step backward. I fail to see how removing choice and customization is supposed to improve workflow. As a composer and a digital publisher, having all of the relevant tools (including page size and file menu) on my large monitor allowed me to streamline my work flow, something that appears to be the general theme of this upgrade. Removing choice and customization for no apparent benefit strikes me as very counterproductive. Please reconsider this.

This might be related:

In 2012 and before, when one changed layers, the Simple Entry Palette showed the color of the selected layer. I can't see that this is the case in 2014. Please tell me I didn't set things up right and there is a simple solution.

I also miss the old toolbars! And, as Zuill noticed: the when one changed layers, the Simple Entry Palette is not showing the color of the selected layer anymore! Argh...! Support case submitted! Why change something that worked perfectly?

Zuill,

I never saw that feature of 2012.  I have the Simple Entry palette open all the time and it never changes colors.  Is there an option that I have overlooked all this time?

In previous versions the Simple Entry palette changes colour to match the layer colour if "Traditional" is chosen for the palette style. Now there's only one choice of palette style and it doesn't have this feature.

OK.  I don't particularly like the icons in Traditional, so I chose long ago Studio Bronze Medium.  I like the icons more than the changing color for layer.  Wish there were both available.  Thanks for the heads up.

[EDIT]  All the others seem to already have a color associated with them, so that is probably why they don't change with layer.
