Makemusic offers a new 'Garritan Instruments for Finale.xml' file for download to overcome the 'open Triangle' problem. Unfortunately, the new file doesn't offer any solution for me. I still need to access the triangle through 'Percussion Toys', instead of 'Basic Orchestral Percussion'. Anyone else having the same problem?

Works fine in Windows. Might be a Mac thing.

I noticed that most of the major issues are with mac. That is not surprising as the major overhaul had to do with Mac. That will probably take some sorting out and update releases before those things are fixed.

freaked

While I really do like some of the new features in 2014, I'm quite happy to keep on working in 2011 as I wait for a maintenance release or two…

And Mavericks isn't coming anywhere NEAR my computers until Avid officially blesses it for use with Pro Tools!

Hi all,

While I have no official timeline for when a maintenance update would be arriving, we do try and address as much as possible, as soon as possible. We've been tracking these issues since launch yesterday and will try to address as many as we can soon.

I have Parallels 9, and it works great. Windows XP is much faster than it was on the Windows computer.

Finale 2014 has a big audio problem. Mac Pro Mavericks 10.9 Finale 2014 "Audio Engine failed to load." error.

I don't have any playback in either midi or audio units. I've tried doing all of MM's recommended fixes and it still does not work.

Do I have to wipe off all previous finale versions and instruments? Finale 2012 works fine for audio, But 2014 is dead on arrival.

What else should I do?

I am also experiencing the same problem. MacBook Pro 15" Early 2011 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Got the error message the first time I booted after installation. Have tried rebooting. I get no sound with either audio units or MIDI. It will not even make a test sound.

Considering Notion.

I am having problems with no sound for GPO 4 until I do a work around from a forum string. The trouble is that once that is done I an unable to any more notation. The other trouble is that it crashes quite often after I done the work around. I've eMailed Finale about this but with rather poor response. Since I teach during their call in hours and write after 9 on the west coast I am unable to call in. (I write from after teach - 9 pm - till about 2 am. Doesn't work with Make Music's schedule.)
Make Music's release of Finale buggy upgrades through the years reminds me of Steinway releasing pianos that need serious piano technical work. Pianists put up with it because there is no other option.
I was hoping for the promised workability of 2014's percussion compared to 2012, since I'm working on a rather larger than I can handle opera which calls for a large percussion section.
Please send help on fixing the no sound for GPO4 on Finale 2014 for Mac that doesn't crash every other time or doesn't allow notation after the "fix".
For now, I am telling my composition students to not use their laptops for their work. Back to paper and pencil.

You can submit support requests through their Support website.

For those with audio problems: 2014 does seem to have problems if you have other third-party audio software (drivers, audio units, VSTs, etc), but on a "clean" Mac it should work fine.
If you are in a position where it doesn't seem to work on your setup and you can't find a way of fixing it (or you can't uninstall the conflicting thing), then I would suggest you hold off using it until an update is released.

Also, at least on my system (Mac OSX 10.9):

Strange behavior when creating tuplets, the note heads appear like small symbols in another font, perhaps Symbol font (haven't checked that yet). Visually, this corrects itself when redrawing the screen, but still annoying to look at (see attached file).

Harmonics only work for Layer 1 during playback in harp parts. I ma have something set incorrectly in Human Playback (if so, if anyone has run into this issue, let me know).

Rob,

Your new CD got a glowing review in the N.Y. Times today. "Beautiful, witty and sometimes utterly desolate."

Thanks Bill, it's always a miracle to have anything mentioned in that newspaper, or frankly, any other paper, and I'm very grateful. And... all of those pieces were engraved with Finale! So there.

I did two pieces and promptly forgot 2014 existed. Maybe MM will use my money to fix the issues or develop something in the future. I won't hold my breath for either.
