Java errors like that usually result because of a Microsoft issue. So, what you can do is install the latest cumulative security update from Microsoft or Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. This will help you get the latest updates from

There is no connection between "Java" and "javascript" - they are different languages with different applications.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having the same problem: "Java was not initialized correctly" when exporting to XML. I'm using Finale 2012a.r3 and I have Java 7 installed which I need for NetBeans. Is there anything I can do without uninstalling MS updates?

That doesn't help because I have Win XP SP and Win Explorer 8 installed.

Then I suggest you contact Tech support - it sounds like their KB article needs updating.

Was the more recent incarnation of this problem ever solved? I just installed Finale 2012c on Windows XP SP3 with IE 8, all updates applied. And I get the "Java was not initialized correctly" message when trying to export to MusicXML. I also have the most recent versions of Oracle's JRE6 and JRE7 installed.

Are you using the built-in XML utility or the newer (better) XML plug-in available free from MM?

AFAIK, the c update incorporated the new XML in the file menu. I'm not sure where I got that, though. I'm sure I was told, but I honestly can't recall the source.

Maybe Justin or Michael Good can confirm or deny?

I just had this problem on a Mac -
Finale 2014.5, Yosemite, SmartScore X2 Pro
Trying to import xml into Finale from Smartscore fails.
Trying to import an exported SmartScore xml (without using the "convert and open in Finale" button) fails.
Same error message - "Java was not initialized correctly"
