I extracted one instrument so it could be exported to .XML and then converted to Braille.

When I then tried to then play the full score, only that part now plays.

I checked the score manager and no "solos" or "mutes" are on. That is the only thing I did: extracted that one part. The full score now only *plays* that one part.

I even went to a second machine, shared the full score over and tried to play it *there,* still, only the one extracted voice plays

Hi Senkmajer

When you open the file, are you editing the full score, or just the part you extracted?
If the full score is visible and you're still having the playback problem can you post the score here?

Cheers...

Hi...

Just something that popped to mind. Are you using ARIA?
If so, have you checked that the player has all of it's instruments loaded?
Also, check the volume setting in score manager (if the mix collumn is not visible, click on the customize" button and select mix)

Cheers...

(edit) I see Zuill has pointed you to a thread with the same solution

It all played just fine, I extracted the one part, returned to full score... BAM!

It appears that I can work-around by changing the "Sound" used in the Score Manager panel.

By changing each one out-and-back, it seems to reactivate them.

Weird.

Now it appears "swing" is screwed up... I know these are not related, but...

What a delight.

Maybe create a duplicate file before extracting, so the extraction doesn't mess up your sounds. As long as you're extracting (which I generally don't do any more), the extracted part is not linked anymore. Every time you want to extract, just resave the file as an independent file, extract, and then return to the original score for further work and playback.

That's what I was planning on doing. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that.

I am only extracting because I have a visually-impaired student that needs the music in Braille form.

Once I create a score, I extract her part to separate it from the score entirely, then I get .XML from that single part, send it off to our VI department and they have software and a printer to convert the .XML to Braille.

One good reason for extracting. So the duplicate file should save you from the bug.

No. The extraction caused the bug.

In future, will duplicate, extract from duplicate, and discard duplicate

Extraction is not necessary.  Just display the part you need for the visually impaired person, and export to MusicXML.  All you will get is that one part.  I believe that's the way it will work.

What I meant was, having a duplicate file for extraction, you save the main file from the corruption. I didn't mean to imply there was no bug. I just meant the master file (not the duplicate) would remain unchanged by not using it for the extraction.

That doesn't work in many cases. Often, there are custom sounds and custom setups that would not be realized with that one button command.

I agree with Zuill, as long as you don't plan on any later changes (or you are willing to keep track of those) make a second copy of your full score.

Call it Patrioticoverture2.musx rather than Patrioticoverture.musx.

Now extract your parts from Patrioticoverture2.musx. Then you cannot possibly interfere with the performance of your original full score.
