The other tools I tried work fine and the Staff Tool programing works fine in 2014. Previous files that have had the Staff Tool programmed successfully are also affected in 2014.5.
Is this a known bug?
If so, I wonder if it has to do with the fact that the Staff Tool has the identifying number 0. Try this:
In this example let us say that you want to program the letter K key for the Staff Tool. While holding down ctrl-alt, hit the letter K key. In the Master Tool Palette dialog, in the field Tool, type ‘1’. Click OK.
From now - in this document*) - the shortcut ctrl-K will take you to the Staff Tool.

*) These tool metatools are Finale document specific, not Finale program specific. You can have other tool metatools in other documents. Mac Finale, 2012c, 2014d & 2014.5, Dolet 6.6 plug-in, Mac OS X 10.11.6, iMac Intel Core i7, 2.93 GHz, 16 GB RAM | Back to Top | |

Dr. Wiggy, I have used the OS X Keyboard shortcuts for a while now for the reason you mentioned, but since I constantly go back and forth between PDFs and Finale, I finally had my fill of the focus bug and thought I would try the Master Tool route instead.
However, I just ditched both and started using Keyboard Maestro and so far I am a very happy camper! Instead, it is “trial-and-error”. I first tried with the number 1 …
